There are lots of uses for bulk SMS. Whether you use it for marketing, mass messaging event attendees or appointment reminders, there are 3 basic steps to make your bulk SMS campaign a success.
Choose a Keyword
This is what your customers will text in to join your SMS Club. Generally you’re better off choosing one word that is easy to remember. Pretend that you own a bike store. Choosing ‘Bicycle’ would be easier to remember and type than ‘StevesBikeOutlet’.
You also have the option of using several keywords to send unique messages to different groups of people. For example at Steve’s Bike Outlet, you could use ‘Bicycle’ for information & tips on maintaining your bike. You could choose ‘Coupons’ for mobile coupons off items in your store etc. Get creative!
Offer an Incentive
People will want something to join your SMS Club, or they won’t bother joining. You can auto respond with an instant coupon for a discount, enter them into a draw for a prize or merely promise them a beneficial feature such as a text reminder 48hrs before their appointment.
It ends up being a win/win. They get a VIP membership to things going on in your store, and you build a list of people who want to hear from you and are more likely to receive your message than through any other medium.
Promote Your Keyword
A question I’m asked often is ‘how do people find out about my SMS Club & sign up’? Easy. Through promotion. Bulk SMS combines well with any other form of marketing you’re already doing. Email newsletter, radio commericals, print ads, social media, in store displays etc.
