An interesting story from the BBC today. They are reporting what information security professionals have been saying for some time: web security is getting worse. With an explosion in the amount of functionality that people are putting into their web sites, there is far more room to inadvertantly open-up security holes.
This is a problem because the majority of web developers don't receive sufficient training in how to develop securely. Things are changing however. Developers working with credit card information are already mandated by the credit card companies to receive such training. However, many small web development businesses don't have access to the same training. If you are a small business who outsources your web site to a professional web development company, ask them what they are doing to make sure your web site isn't the next statistic in a BBC report.
I'm delighted to announce that I'll shortly be launching Prime Information Security - a new venture to focus specifically on information security for the small business. That includes training for web developers to make sure they can make your web site secure. Stay tuned!
