What you see is not always what you get.
If we take me as an example, I have clients who know me as Linda Ockwell-Jenner, President of Motivational Steps. Obviously they have checked out my website previously, engaged me to offer a keynote at a conference and they are very happy.
On the other hand we have people who know me as LindaOJ
Social Media Sweetheart, an early adopter of social media, who is quite active on a lot of platforms and loves building relationships online to see how I can help people.
Last but not least we have Linda Ockwell-Jenner, co-founder of the Small Business Community Network. Dedicated to helping and guiding SMB's by offering monthly networking, special events, conferences and much more.
What you see is not always what you get, so when you look at an opportunity to connect with someone, work with someone or refer someone look around, look backward, and forwards, check out their Google presence as well as the website provided for your information. Check out their LinkedIn profile also and this offers you a broad range of their expertise.
If you take a look at my LinkedIn profile today you will see many endorsements for my Social Networking expertise. This is because that is what I have worked towards being known for, but also because social networking is the big thing at the moment, but something else will come along, at some point.
My point is you do have a larger skill set than you might think. In my case my speaking engagements are taken care of and I have built strong foundations for Motivational Steps, the SBCN is growing and I am well known in that area. My goal these past few years has been not only to give back which I will continue to do, but also grow my social networking so that this can offer me even more opportunities long term.
What you see is not always what you get, in the best sense of the meaning, so whether you are connecting to someone and not looking past their known skill-set or growing your own skill-set and expertise to move forward, take a better look and look beyond what you already know.
