Have you noticed how everyone loves a good story? I built my success as a speaker on my story telling abilities. Luckily for me I have a compelling story, which often brings a tear or two to my audiences eyes, inspires my audience and offers them hope and the strength to know they can do what I did.
People want to know you are human and like them. They get so bored of hearing all the success stories about millionaires who never made a mistake, always lived the good life and make it so easy! Life is not easy, let alone building your success, whatever that may mean to you.
Honesty pays off, when I share my true story of hardship, sadness, chronic disease and much more my audience listen to every word, they wait in anticipation for me to share with them how I overcome all the challenges in my life and built two successful businesses. I have no problem sharing the secrets of my success, what worked for me. If my ideas work for the audience so bit it, if not I offer strategies that may work for them.
Being authentic and showing you care is an asset more than ever today. Yes we can sell a product or service and reap the financial rewards, but how much customer loyalty do you have to show for this? How many customers return time after time, refer you and keep on remembering you?
Tell your story how it is, share it with others and be proud of your achievements, you are human like everyone else after all.
I know, now, but not at the time that working 3 jobs at the same time to make ends meet, have benefited my business and are part of the reason I am successful. I worked in retail, I cleaned in a hotel and I sold vacuums, jobs that paid little, management who cared nothing for the employees well being and little time off to spend with my family. All the experiences I gained through the 3 jobs enabled me to grow and learn more about me and what customers want. I had hands on experience with all of those jobs, I know what it felt like from the employers perspective and from the customers perspective. When I deliver seminars I am not reading from a script I am speaking from my heart, I am telling how it is, how I coped, and how I moved on. The gift of being a great storyteller is worth its weight in gold.
Whatever business you are in, wherever you are in your quest for success, you have your own story to tell, share it with everyone, I did and look at me now!
