Support Health Care In Canada

Due to recent news stories from the US concerning Canada's health care I have to speak out and support Canada. This is the letter I sent to the Record Newspaper this morning...

In response to opinions in the Record recently, I have to speak up and defend Ontario’s health system. I am a landed immigrant of 16 years and from the minute I came to live in Canada I have had the best healthcare that  could be offered. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time in 1997 I did not need to pay for any of my cancer treatment, including a 5 weeks stay in the Princess Margaret Lodge, Jarvis Street which offers cancer patients a place to stay whilst undergoing treatment at Sunnybrook and the Princess Margaret Hospital.  I have received radiation treatment, many operations and time in hospitals here and received excellent care and attention and paid nothing for all of this. My waiting times have been wonderful, even when we did not have the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. Xrays, Ultrasounds, Mammograms, Bone Scans, have all been part of my health care and once again I reiterate the wait times were a matter of days and the longest 2 weeks. I speak for all of my family members when I say that we are truly lucky and should be thankful to have such a wonderful health care system that Canada offers. I do think that the few occasions when complaints are forthcoming should all be looked at individually and not judged without the true information being available. I also believe that we all have to help ourselves and take on board a commitment  to living a healthy lifestyle in order to help our healthy system and not overload it unnecessarily.

I would not be the successful business owner I am today without my health, I owe part of this to myself for leading a healthy lifestyle, but have to offer credit to the Canadian Health System for everything they do to help Canadians with their health & wellness initiative and services.

Support Canada, and speak up for our health system! Thanks.
