Are you in business because it's your passion and you love your work, or is it all about the money?
Don't get me wrong, being in business and not making any money is not something I am advocating.
As a small business owner and mentor I help hundreds of people decide whether or not owning their own business is for them. It's not for everyone. Unless you are extremely lucky, even with hard work, it's difficult to make the financial gains and reach the success you want much before the 5 year mark. If that does not put you off then you will probably be it in for the long haul.
Surviving those first five years can be challenging, most of your revenue will be going straight back into running your business, and without a supportive spouse, partner, or small business loan the stress can be overwhelming.
Loving the work you do, and being passionate about being a small business owner, plus knowing you will be helping others, is the key to your success. If you are not enjoying being the owner of a small business every day will seem longer, and you will find it more difficult to focus. Eventually you will either give up and walk away or plod on regardless but without much success because your lack of interest will be noticed by others, including your customers.
Never start a business just to make money. Start a business to make a difference - Mario Forleo.
