Here we go again, Summer is upon us and we love to sunbath in that gorgeous golden light. We all need Vitamin D, it is good for us, but I just discovered that if you go to a Tanning Salon you actually get different rays. The UV light from indoor tanning can cause premature aging and UV light can increases your risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Just one session at a tanning parlor can cause some of the same skin damage doctors see in early skin cancers, more than from natural sunlight. That's because indoor tanning is so much more intense. The rays from tanning bulbs are 10 to 15 times stronger than sunlight. It results in a faster tan and a greater risk.
Use sun block every time you are exposed to the sunlight, protect yourself from cancer and sun damage and use the many lotions and potions out there today that you can easily apply to your skin to make it look like you have a golden tan. We were actually born the skin colour we were meant to be, why change what we have? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and I for one am proud of my porcelain skin, which is pale and if I need to look a little bit sun kissed I can easily do that with a dusting of powder.
I have been diagnosed with skin cancer, luckily for me it basal cell carcincoma and could be removed from the bridge of my nose because it was detected early. It could have spread but I do not believe it would have killed me. If I had not visited the skin doctor and he picked up on it I am told it is more difficult to remove once it has spread due to the proximity of eyes, nose and mouth and surgery can leave some nasty scars.
A little bit of this and a little bit of that means moderation, protection and awareness, and little sun is better than more. Try to avoid the tanning salons, protect yourself no one else will!
