So many people are confused about whether or not to use LinkedIn. Why not fill out your profile, connect to a few people you know have been using LinkedIn for a while, and learn from them? Don't jump in and connect to everyone, for no reason other than to have a lot of contacts. If you are going to do something, do it properly. Watch, listen and learn. Ultimately know why you are using LinkedIn, in order to be effective long term. Be consistent and be you.
Once you know why you are using LinkedIn and have a strategy that works for you, because remember - everyone is different with different needs, make a list of the types of people you want to connect to and why. Always remember, quality over quantity wins out every time.
You do not have to accept every invitation that comes your way, but at least check out the profiles of people who invite you to connect, and if you feel they might be a good fit, send them a message asking how you may be of assistance, and if you can get to know them better by email, meeting in person, chatting over the phone, whatever works for you.
Out of all the social/professional platforms out there, I truly believe LinkedIn is the one to start off with and to really put your heart and soul into it for it to work for you. Whether you are looking for a new position or building a business, LinkedIn has so many opportunities if you are open to finding out how to use LinkedIn effectively.
