Know How To Use Linkedin To Benefit You

If no one knows who you are how can they help you? If no one has a relationship with you how do they know who you are, what you do and what help you need? If no one knows who you are, do not have a relationship with you, how can they build the trust needed to help you, refer you, work with you? It may take time to build relationships based on trust and respect but it takes longer to find a position that suits you and someone who wants to hire you, if they don't know who you are. LinkedIn offers you an opportunity to connect to others, get to know them and the opportunities out there.

You may be a small business owner, or you might be in transition, but everyone needs help. Finding effective ways to reach your goals and to connect with people with whom you want to work, build partnerships is essential in order to move forward.

LinkedIn is misunderstood and last week alone at least 1 person a day shared with me they have a profile but have no idea how LinkedIn can help them and what benefits can be gained by using LinkedIn consistently. It’s not a numbers game, and even if you disagree, take a look at your connections, check out what engagement you have with them, check out the conversations you have with them and ask yourself a few questions:

          •        Why are you connected to this person?  How many of your connections do you check out to find out who they are, what they do and if you can help them and vice versa.

          •        How can you help any of your connections if you have no idea who they are?

          •        How can LinkedIn enable me to move forward with my business, or to find a new position?

Any time you spend online working on your business should be measured so that you know what is working and what is not.  A lot of time can be wasted online if you have no idea what to do, how to do it and why.

Here is a recent example where something I posted which enabled me to gain more exposure because 2,258 people viewed, 39 people liked and 9 people commented on the post. I checked out the 39 people who liked my post to see who they were and this alerted me to the fact that people who are connected to me read my post and like them. I thank people when they like my posts.

The 9 people who commented on my post opened the door for me to engage with them and get to know them better.

But, and this is very important, what I post online is always relevant to my passion, my work and helping others and always displays my skill set in one way or another. I don’t post anything for the sake of it because that can leave connections confused as to who we are and what we do etc.

LinkedIn is a great resource with lots to offer, but you might find it’s not the right platform for you online. Ask yourself some questions and do some basic research before making any snap decisions.
