Keeping Up Appearances

As a small business owner you work hard to emulate the large corporations who are successful and have a strong brand. In the early days of growing your business there are a couple of things you can do to encourage brand awareness and be visible by search engines:

  • Ensure your business information, address, contact information, phone number and email are correct and up to date. When we add our information to marketing material, websites, online resources such as FB, LinkedIn, Twitter and Members Directories people will check out our information. If the information is not up to date, as an example you change your business address but do not update the information everywhere, you could lose possible clients and existing clients.
  • Your brand is your showcase opportunity to share with the world. If you use a photo on your marketing material and resources mentioned above be consistent with the photo and ensure you update your photo everywhere when you make changes.
  • Check if your website works, on a regular basis. If your website is not working and clients are not telling you then you will lose out. Check that everything on the website is functional and easy to navigate.

If you have problems with IT related tasks, whether it is re-sizing a photo or planning a new phone system, it is always a good idea to ask an expert for their opinion, tips and sometimes to do the work for you.

Keeping up appearances simply means whoever is looking at you or your business, your brand needs to be well represented. Anything that appears to be unprofessional can turn potential clients off.
