People are always asking me "How do you do it? Being a hands on mom of 3 busy boys and a full time Financial Advisor??"
Well, the truth is, some days I don't know how I do everything!! My answer to them is, "I just do it!!" If you love something in life, you will find a way to make it happen!!
I am a very passionate and caring person who just wants to help people feel comfortable about their financial future!! I have been an Advisor for Sun Life Financial in Stratford for the last 2 years and I love every minute of it, 80% of the time of course!!
Just like I love being a mom of 3 busy boys, ages 10, 8 and 5 and a wonderful and loving wife, or so that is what my husband’s tells me!! I have been married to my high school sweetheart for the last 13 years but have been together for 19 and every day we grow stronger together!! Without my wonderful family, I don't know where I would be!! It takes a great support system at home to help me succeed in my life!!
I tell my boys all the time, "All you can do is try your best!!" That is what I believe! Everything else will fall into place! Try to stick to a schedule for your work and home life and work when you are at work and shut everything off when it is family time! It’s not fair to my family if I am at home, but on my blackberry every 2 minutes or my laptop. They need to know that when I am at home, that they have my attention!
My boys know that Mondays and Wednesday nights, I am mom and will be by their side at their soccer games to cheer them on and help coach! They also know that on Tuesdays and Thursday nights, they will probably not see much of me because those are my appointment nights and they can look forward to being at home with their Dad. They feel good knowing what the week entails!
I attended Sales Congress for Sun Life in Toronto last month and I learned from some of the top advisors in this business that if you are looking for balance in your life, Stop Looking!! There will never be perfect balance in your home and work life all of the time! Don't waste your time looking for something you can never make happen and stop stressing over your life not being perfect!
For example, if one of my sons was to become sick and needed me, I could never "fit that in my schedule", things happen sometimes unexpected and you just need to embrace them when they happen.
Try to find some structure in your day and try your best to stick by it! Things are sometimes going to interfere, but make a list! Make sure the priority things are done that day and as you move down the list, something’s can wait until tomorrow!!
Also, be sure to take time for yourself!! Something I am still learning to do and sometimes have to be told!! I do feel better about myself when I do and mentally I need that break! My family even notices the difference when I take some down time!
This day in age, life can be too short!! Try to enjoy every day and when you are feeling overwhelmed, it’s time for a break!!
