Unless you're already familiar with the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, you may not know of the Grandmother to Grandmother organization that works to raise funds for grannies in Africa. These women from their 40s to their 70s are raising their orphaned grandchildren while watching their own adult children die of HIV/AIDS.
I knew about the Foundation, the HIV/AIDS problem, and children being orphaned, but I did not know of Grandmothers to Grandmothers projects before the call came for the anthology.
Editor and writer Patricia Elford, a member of the Petawawa Grandmother's group, put out a call for submissions for an anthology— a proposed fundraiser to help these African women. http://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/whatwedo.htm
The development of this book is one chapter in the project, and plans for the book launches yet another. To learn more about the upcoming Kitchener launch, go here: http://storygal.wordpress.com/
