Whether you are a small biz owner or a friend doing someone a favour, follow through with what you started. Reputation is key and once you lose that you have to work very hard to attempt to gain it back.
A few tips from me would be:
- Never over promise, always add a few days on for safety and if you finish the work early then it is a nice surprise.
- If you can't finish the work be honest, your client or friend might not be overjoyed but be prepared to offer a referral in your place.
- Do not attempt to help someone or work on something that you know you can't do, this is not fair on the person you are helping and could end up costing you a lot more than dollars.
Ultimately be honest, with yourself and your clients or friends, honesty is always the best policy.
If you intend on offering a Newsletter, which is another great example know your limitations and know that if you offer it once a month your subscribers will have an expectation of you. Some small biz owners realise they have become swamped with other work and forget to continue with their newsletter, which may demonstrate to clients and possible clients that you are not consistent or finish what you started.
The same goes for Pocasts, if you offer an expectation that you will be consistent and do not follow through your reputation is at risk.
Finish what you started and then move on to the next task, works for a lot of people.
