Do You Offer Excellent Customer Service?

If you are a business owner and know you offer the best in customer service, in fact you offer excellence, do not be afraid to let everyone know this is one of your core strengths. What is customer service though, and if you or the customer have no idea this is where misconceptions and challenges arise.

As a customer myself I expect and receive, most of the time, the best customer service I can expect. Rarely do I say I have been offered excellent customer service, but when I do get that, I am very vocal and about it and the business that managed to achieve excellent are then referred on by me.

So everyone has a different idea what customer service is, so obviously every business offers what they think they should or can and customers are either happy or unhappy with what they are offered.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Customer service is the provision of service to customers, before, during and after a purchase.

According to Jamier L. Scott. (2002),[1] “Customer service is a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction – that is, the feeling that a product or service has met the customer expectation."

Here are a few tips that I know have helped me grow a loyal customer following:

  • Answer emails, telephone calls promptly.
  • Treat your customer as you would like to be treated.
  • Never over promise, then under deliver.
  • Look at your customers concerns seriously and follow up.
  • Build relationships with your customers, get to know them.
  • Offer something extra - your time, ideas, understanding, special offers.
  • Never take your customers for granted.
  • Train your front line staff how you want them to treat your customers.

Just a few ideas, there are lots more, on how you can help yourself when looking at your customer service offerings.
