Bandwidth in Easy to Understand Terms...OR...
Will an Externally Worn Waist Band Help Me to Lose Weight and Width?
I really don’t know if a waist band would help me, but you know, I would like to lose some weight and some width; And often, when I talk about “BANDWIDTH” or “BROADBAND” or even “WIDEBAND” I sometimes wonder if people think I’m talking about the type of “band” that can help me lose some of my weight, width and breadth.
In fact, sometimes I think most people would like to hear about, talk about and learn about weight loss ideas more than they would like to hear about, talk about and learn about what I’m really saying when I talk about “bandwidth.”
Soooo…. What an idea just hit me…..why not talk tech in terms that most people can understand?!!! Why not relate tech talk to weight loss ideas or vice versa?!!! So here goes.
Why a Waist Band is Bad for Internet Surfing
At first glance you might think that wearing a waist band or a belly band while Internet surfing would be a good thing because it would allow you to get closer to your desk and closer to your computer. While this may be true for most people, including me, most people who are into all things techie will tell you that a belly band is bad.
An externally worn waist band WILL reduce your bandwidth but that isn't what you want when surfing. You want as much bandwidth as possible when surfing the net. This will let everything just flow as it should without constriction or pinching off. A waist or belly band is like a bottle neck in its effect. A bottle neck causes traffic on a highway to slow to a crawl. A belly band can cause your digestive process to slow to a crawl and a belly band applied to your internet service will create a bottle neck that will cause that page you are trying to download to slow to a crawl.
Hey, but Ron, you work with telephones….what do belly bands have to do with phone service? That's a good question.
How Waist Bands Affect Your Voice
From wearing a waist band I know that it restricted the expansion of my belly, restricting normal air flow in and out of my lungs. Thus a belly band makes it more difficult to speak. The tighter the belly band, the harder it is to speak normally.
Well, what is true about sending your voice out of your body and through the air, is also true about sending your voice over the internet. If you tighten that belly band too tightly, pretty soon you will have no voice at all; similarly, the tighter that belly band around your internet connection the narrower that bottle neck becomes until no voice can get through the internet network at all. It really is quite an easy thing to understand.
I hope this has been informative for you. Stay tuned for next month’s article on preventing the theft of your conversations, when sending your voice over the internet, titled Staying Secure while SIPping.
Until then remember; only you can reduce internet bottlenecks. Don’t wear a waist band while surfing. It will restrict your breathing, your internet service will slow to a crawl and you COULD drown. (;>)
