The road to fitness is paved with good intentions — but sometimes it’s hard to know how to take the first steps. Whether you've taken some time away from fitness or have never given it a shot, you just might need some tips from the Elite Training Facility to get going.
Use these simple tips
to get your exercise or fitness routine moving:
1. Get a partner / friend and make dates.
It’s easy to flake out on ourselves; it’s much harder to flake out on friends or others with whom we’ve made plans. Set up weekday gym time with friends, make a standing running date with a neighbor, or search online for other active people in your area. Having a commitment to others not only makes us more likely to stick with it, it also makes it much more fun.
Remember, we have a referral program. You'll get 25% Off your next Better Body Exchange session when you refer someone!
2. Make Ambitious Exercise Goals.
Instead of saying "I will exercise three days a week," plan to exercise every day, even if you know you won't make it. Most of us accomplish only 60 percent of our weekly fitness goals, according to research from the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida in Gainesville. So if you plan to work out for an hour every day, you'll probably make it to three or four workouts a week.
3. Seek a personal trainer
It may sound daunting, but working with a personal trainer provides both expertise and motivation that you can’t find on your own. Be sure to find a trainer who works at the right level, though. If you’re a beginner, you don’t need to work with someone who trains pro athletes. Ask for references, and find out what types of clients a trainer typically has so you can find the right match.
4. Use apps and trackers honestly
From wearable technology to apps on your smartphone, there’s a world of gadgets and software designed to help you track your fitness. All can help with accountability — but you have to start by being honest with the data you feed them about weight, daily food intake, daily exercise and other variables. Data tracking is only as good as the accuracy of the data itself.
